To begin with, the teeth are covered with enamel which is a coating that gives them the white color. Therefore, when the enamel gets stripped or stained, a yellow layer forms below it. Vitamin C- Lemon provides Vitamin C which plays a major role in whitening the teeth. In this case, it acts like a bleaching agent which clears the yellow teeth discoloration.
Citric acid- Lemon contains citric acid which arouses the production of saliva that cleanses the mouth.
Anti-bacterial and acid properties- These properties of the lemon juice facilitate in killing mouth bacteria, preventing a number of oral diseases and above all gives brighter teeth.
Natural sweet scent- Lemons contains a natural sweet scent that freshen the mouth.

 Using lemon Juice to whiten your teeth 

  • Mix a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with a tablespoon of water.
  • Brush your teeth thoroughly using this mixture for a minute.
  •  Rinse with warm water and brush the teeth again using your usual toothpaste.
  • Repeat this three times a week for better results.
Better still
  •   Apply the mixture on the teeth using your fingers.
  •   Rinse your mouth after 5-10 minutes with clean water.
  •  Repeat this three times a week for better results.
Using Lemon Peel

  • Peel a fresh lemon and apply the peel on your teeth.
  • Rub the peal all over the mouth for 1-2 minutes then rinse with clean water.
  • Repeat this three times a week for better results
It is recommended that you don’t use lemon too frequently since its acidic properties can damage the enamel and lower the calcium levels. However, using the lemon juice or peel two to three times a week will not cause any damage. As well, take drinks which cause stains such as blueberries, tea, coffee (especially the black coffee), soda, tomato sauce, popsicles and soy sauce among others with a straw. I know it sounds funny but the straws help to avoid stains as there is minimal contact between the teeth and such drinks. Lastly, as the doctor says don’t chew or smoke tobacco.
